Evidence points to sunken Southeast islands

Never take what’s under water for granted. Scientists are finding strong evidence that Southeast Alaska’s outer coast used to have another layer of islands and peninsulas. They rose up as advancing ice-age glaciers pushed a bulge of land ahead of them as much as 15,000 years ago. And the now-sunken ground could harbor hidden evidence…

THMS Construction Update

Thunder Mountain construction is nearly on schedule. Assistant Superintendent Charla Wright says contractor Coogan Construction is only three days behind. Workmen have caught up substantially from last month, when the weekly construction report indicated a three-week lag. The school district had marked March 18 as the day to decide if the building would be completed…

JDHS Journalism Project: Students perform in D.C.

Thirty-four Glacier Valley Elementary School 4th and 5th graders perform The Tides and the Tempest this weekend at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. The school is one of 5 national winners of the Kennedy Center’s award for excellence in arts education. Glacier Valley was invited to perform as part of the award.
