Two Alaska residents recently pleaded guilty to hunting violations during this year’s Haines moose hunt.
Truman Philbrick of Wasilla pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of taking a bull moose without the required permit. Two other charges against him were dismissed as part of a plea deal. Philbrick was fined $3,000 with half of the amount suspended and he was ordered to pay an additional $1,000 in restitution.
Mary Stickler of Haines pleaded guilty to unlawful possession/transportation of big game. She was fined $2,000 with half suspended.
Both Stickler and Philbrick were placed on probation for one year.
The Haines-area moose hunt usually lasts about three weeks, but this year’s hunt closed after just eight days due to a rapid harvest. Twenty-six moose were harvested. Two were sublegal.
