Haines man who allegedly ‘pistol-whipped’ another man faces felony assault charge

A Haines man who allegedly shot at and “pistol whipped” another man was arrested Thursday.

Francis Hickman, 28, faces a felony assault charge in the assault of another man with a dangerous weapon.

Police responded to a call from the alleged victim about 11 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, according to charging documents.

Officer Chris Brown responded and located the caller at mile marker 3 on Haines Highway. The man said Hickman fired two shots at him from a revolver at “point-blank range,” Brown said.

He also said Hickman “pistol whipped” him.

Charging documents say the victim was asleep at Hickman’s residence at 1.5 Mile Small Tracts Road when he was woken up and assaulted by Hickman.

The victim then reportedly fled the residence.

Police were unable to locate Hickman, but found blood and two bullet holes at the residence, one in a wall and one in a window.

Others who were reportedly at the residence said Hickman had left.

Alcohol was a factor in the incident, police said in a news release.

The alleged victim was transported to the local clinic. A doctor found he had sustained several injuries including losing a tooth, according to charging documents.

Hickman was arrested Dec. 1. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

He was appointed a public defender.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled at 10 a.m. Dec. 9.
