Security changes planned for Fairbanks borough building

Multiple changes are planned at the Fairbanks North Star Borough administrative building to make it more secure.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports borough Mayor Karl Kassel has had problems with people barging into his office.

Kassel recently had a security door installed at the front of his suite of offices and he says more security changes are planned for the building.

Kassel says the borough is addressing security across the borough system.

Besides the addition of the security door, a new emergency exit for employees was recently installed.

The mayor’s security door has been criticized by borough Assembly member Lance Roberts. He says the change closes the mayor off from the public and prevents chance encounters.

Kassel says there should be no impact on accessibility.
