Man indicted for August machete attack in Anchorage

A man was indicted last week by an Anchorage grand jury for allegedly attacking a woman with a machete, according to a Department of Law news release.

Jonathan Anaruk, 19, faces one count of first-degree attempted murder, one count of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault, and two counts of third-degree assault.

Police responded to the Aug. 18 incident near Anchorage’s Valley of the Moon Park and made contact with a woman covered in blood.

Officers observed deep cuts to her shoulder and hand, and multiple cuts to her head, according to the release.

She was treated at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

Anaruk was arrested on September 19 for the attack and has remained in custody.

A conviction of attempted murder in the first degree, carries a prison sentence of up to 99 years.
