Lawmakers are nearing a deadline to vacate downtown Anchorage office space after a judge invalidated the lease and the building owner filed a $37 million claim against the Legislature.
KTUU-TV reports vans recently moved boxes out of the renovated Anchorage building before the Oct. 16 move-out deadline.
The Alaska Journal of Commerce reported the building would have been leased for $3.3 million annually for 10 years. Gov. Bill Walker said he’d veto a proposed $32.5 million purchase price.
A claim seeks to recoup renovation costs that real estate developer Mark Pfeffer has said were specifically tailored for the Legislature.
Sen. Gary Stevens has said a midtown Anchorage building that lawmakers will use is the cheapest of three options.
Stevens signed an $11.85 million purchase agreement for the space in July.
