State raises waterfowl bag limits on three species

There are more geese and ducks on the tundra this year, and hunters will get an extra shot at them.

Starting September 1, bag limits for three waterfowl species will go up as the state takes over for federal managers.

The daily bag limit for brant geese will increase from two to three birds with nine in possession. The bag limit for snow and Ross’s geese will increase from four to six birds per day with 18 in possession. The bag limit for canvasback ducks will increase from one to two birds per day with six in possession.

Resident hunters in units 18 and 19 of the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta have to purchase a state hunting license and a five dollar state waterfowl hunting stamp to participate in the season.
