Denali National Park officials are planning to reopen an area of the park that had been closed because of a problem grizzly bear, which will be killed by park rangers once it is located.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that park spokeswoman Katheen Kelly says the Mountain Vista and Savage Loop trails will reopen to the public Thursday. They will be available for use from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
The Savage River area had been closed or restricted to limited use since July 1, when a bear bit and scratched a hiker along a trail. In June, the bear charged vehicles and obtained food from a daypack that a visitor threw to distract it.
Kelly says park rangers are on the hunt for the bear.
