Judging by money, Democrat Steve Lindbeck is running a serious campaign against Alaska Congressman Don Young.

Lindbeck announced Monday that he raised more than $400,000 in the last three months. His campaign said over 80 percent of that total comes from Alaskans. This was Lindbeck’s first fundraising quarter since he filed to run for Young’s seat.

He has already raised more than any other Young challenger since Ethan Berkowitz ran for Congress in 2008.

Young announced that he has raised just $135,000 over the same three months. Still, Young has been at it much longer. Young says he has $640,000 cash on hand, nearly double what Lindbeck has in the bank, after expenses.

Lindbeck is a former general manager of Alaska Public Media and a former director of the Alaska Humanities Forum.
