Point Lena house destroyed by fire

No one was injured after a house fire Sunday evening at the 17000 block of Point Lena Loop Road.

The 885-square-foot, single-story structure was considered a total loss. It was valued at $90,000 while the contents were valued at about $15,000.

Capital City Fire/Rescue Assistant Chief Ed Quinto says firefighters arrived before 6 p.m. to find flames coming out of the windows on three of the four sides of the structure.

“Our fire crews took our hose lines and stretched it to the outside of the house,” Quinto says. “We started a defensive mode of attack by applying water into the house from the outside. We did not enter the building due to unsafe building conditions.”

Quinto says it took approximately 45 minutes to control the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Quinto says the occupant of the house met firefighters out on the road.
