A construction worker was killed and a semi-tractor trailer driver sustained minor injuries after a bridge collapsed near Hopple Street on southbound Interstate 75, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The paper quotes dispatchers as calling it a “major” collapse, and officials say that area of roadway will be closed indefinitely.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m.

The Cincinnati Fire Department tells The Associated Press that the bridge was undergoing demolition at the time of the collapse.

Cincinnati City Manager Harry Black tells NPR member station WVXU that they don’t know why that section of road fell.

“Who knows what happened,” Black said, “But we will find out.

He says the city will conduct an investigation and will work with the state department of transportation.

Blacks says several hundred tons of concrete dropped onto the interstate.
