Alleged shoplifter caught after running in front of police vehicles

Juneau Police say they arrested a man who ran out of Walmart with a flat screen TV on Saturday, and literally crossed the road in front of a series of police cars heading to investigate another case.

Berton Atlas Tullis, 33, was arrested and charged with larceny. He allegedly ducked out of the store through an emergency exit and crossed Glacier Highway with the 42-inch TV over his head. Juneau Police said in a statement that four officers were traveling in a procession to follow up on a reported assault on Friday.

Tullis allegedly ran toward Renninger Street, where he placed the TV in the bed of a pickup that was parked in a nearby apartment complex parking lot.

Police said Tullis was lodged at Lemon Creek Correctional Center and later released on his own recognizance.
