In Ketchikan, mayoral candidate has felony record

A candidate for local office has a felony conviction on record.

KRBD searched Alaska court records for all local candidates and found that Ketchikan Gateway Borough mayoral candidate Lewis Armey Jr. was convicted of felony coercion last year.

According to court documents, police seized a parcel Armey sent to Mahria Williams in March of 2013.

A search revealed approximately 2 ounces of marijuana.

Police also recorded a phone conversation between Armey and Williams, and Armey allegedly admitted to mailing the drugs with the intent for Williams to sell it and send the money back to him.

He was sentenced to six months in jail in December of 2013.

Armey declined to comment Monday.

Criminal history searches for other local candidates revealed no other felony convictions.
