Troopers: Kotlik girl drowns in bucket of water

Alaska State Troopers say a 1-year-old girl has drowned in a bucket of water at her family’s home in the western Alaska village of Kotlik.

Troopers say the girl was pronounced dead at the village clinic shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday after CPR efforts were unsuccessful.

Troopers say the girl fell into the bucket of water in the bathroom of the home.

An investigation is continuing.

Troopers say the state medical examiner’s office has been notified of the death.

The name of the child was not immediately released and troopers released few details of the incident.

Kotlik is a Yup’ik Eskimo community of about 640 people. The village is located 165 miles northwest of Bethel.
