Stoltze questions commitment to renewable goal
A co-chair of the House Finance Committee is questioning the state’s commitment to meeting its renewable energy goals.
The Legislature, as part of a state energy policy passed in 2010, set a goal of having half Alaska’s electric generation from renewable and alternative energy sources by 2025.
Rep. Bill Stoltze said the message the public is getting runs counter to that, including some of the assumptions built into the gas line proposals.
The Chugiak Republican said some of the commitments to the Susitna-Watana hydro project have shifted to a gas line.
He said more candid discussion is needed on what the state’s commitment to renewable energy is and if something has changed, the public needs to know.
