Moose sightings in Juneau up this season
Juneau has had about five sightings of moose this summer.
State wildlife biologist Ryan Scott says that’s on par with the last few years, and up compared to five years ago.
Except for a few isolated herds nearby, moose are scarce in the Juneau area.
State moose research biologist Kevin White says a transplant herd in Berners Bay began about five decades ago with a few calves brought in from the Wasilla area.
White says the moose seen this summer in Juneau are most likely from that herd. Berners Bay is about 40 miles north of Juneau.
