Alaska State Troopers say a 5-year-old girl was shot and killed by her older brother in Western Alaska.
The siblings were at their Mountain Village home alone when the incident occurred on Monday.
Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters says the 8-year-old boy was at their house by himself when his sister arrived. Peters says the girl died in the home after being shot.
Peters declined to say whether the incident appeared accidental or intentional.
Troopers say the shooting happened as the boy was playing with a rifle that he had used to go hunting the day before.
The names of the siblings have not released, but the Office of Child Services and the local district attorney have been notified.
Mountain Village is located about 470 miles northwest of Anchorage.
