Parnell proposes moving up Alaska’s primary
Alaska’s primary would be moved up two weeks in even-numbered years under a bill proposed by Gov. Sean Parnell.
Parnell says he introduced the bill at the request of the lieutenant governor’s office. He says the change is intended to assure that the Division of Elections can timely comply with law requiring that it get ballots to overseas and military voters at least 45 days before a general election.
The measure, SB44 in the Senate and HB104 in the House, also changes the timeline for things like getting a name removed from a primary ballot.
