Nude man reports getting hit by vehicle on Egan Dr.

Police are reporting a possible hit-and-run on Thursday night that may have included a nude pedestrian on Juneau’s main thoroughfare.

Sargent Chris Gifford says they are identifying the pedestrian only as a 28-year old local resident.

“Someone called us at 9:45 last night and said that they saw a nude man running around in traffic on Egan Drive in the area of Sunny Point,” Gifford said. Two officers sent to the scene did not find anybody.

Another witness later reported a nude man in the area of Walmart who appeared to be hit by a car.

About 10:30 p.m., a North Douglas Island resident reported the nude man was sitting on their front porch and he was asking for medical help. The man apparently had crossed the Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge and Gastineau Channel by foot without wearing any clothes or shoes.

Gifford said that the man did not appear to be intoxicated, but he could not say if the man was under the influence of any other substance besides alcohol. Gifford says they’re still trying to get more information from him about what happened. Officers have also investigated the scene of the reported hit-and-run

“We’ve found what looks a scene of a traffic collision on Egan Drive near Walmart, near the Sunny Point overpass,” Gifford said. “There was some evidence — parts of cars, tire marks, things of that nature — that would show that there was actually a collision that occured there of some sort.”

The man was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries that initially appeared to be bumps, bruises, scratches, and cuts.

Anyone with any information about last night’s incident is asked to call the Juneau Police Department at 586-0600.
