A 22-year-old Sitka driver died after crashing head-on with a sport utility vehicle.
The Daily Sitka Sentinel reports Lane Marlin Robinson was behind the wheel of a car Sunday night that had not stopped in response to a police officer’s lights and siren.
The car crossed the center line on Halibut Point Road and crashed. Robinson was declared dead at the scene.
An 18-year-old woman in the SUV was treated and released at Sitka Community Hospital.
An officer spotted the car at 11:07 p.m. traveling at a high rate of speed. Sitka police say the officer followed and turned on his siren when the car reached an intersection. He lost sight of the vehicle until he came onto the crash.
Robinson’s body was flown to Anchorage for an autopsy.
