Family and friends of the late Jim Crockett gathered at an Anchorage City Church to remember the man who led Bean’s Cafe soup kitchen and advocated for the city’s poor and homeless.
Crockett for the past 11 years was the executive director of Bean’s Cafe. He passed away last Thursday of pneumonia. His friend, Victor Hett, said during Tuesday’s memorial service that Crockett was the rare person who made an impact on everyone he met.
KTUU-TV says Crockett was involved in many other community organizations to help the city’s poor and homeless. The cafe began feeding needy Anchorage residents in 1979 and now serves more than 800 meals a day.
Crockett’s family has requested that memorial donations be made to Bean’s Cafe.
