Cruise ships plan stops at private Sitka dock
A privately owned deep-water dock in Sitka expects to see at least 12,500 passengers disembark from cruise ships next year.
Dock manager Chris McGraw told the Sitka Assembly last week that the floating dock on Halibut Point Road has a commitment from two Ocean Cruise Line vessels.
The 593-foot Regatta and the 565-foot Seven Seas Navigator together are expected to make 25 visits.
The numbers were announced as the assembly discussed a subsidy for passenger bus service to the dock, which was financed by McGraw’s family and opened in July 2011.
The city had committed to subsidizing ground service if the dock attracted cruise ships.
The city after hearing from McGraw issued a request for transportation proposals.
