Crash kills 2, injures 3 south of Fairbanks

Alaska State Troopers say two people were killed and three injured in a crash on the Parks Highway south of Fairbanks.

Troopers spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said the crash happened Friday afternoon between Fairbanks and Nenana, and winter driving conditions were a factor.

Ipsen told The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner that 25-year-old Shawn Dugan of Fort Wainwright and 33-year-old Sandy Graetzsch of Fairbanks died at the scene after the car driven by Dugan crossed the center line after fishtailing at the bottom of a hill.

The car missed one vehicle, but slid in front of a 2009 Chevy Avalanche driven by Rhonda Coghill of Nenana.

Coghill was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital along with her daughter and 5-year-old granddaughter. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
