The state of Alaska’s annual North Slope lease sale took in high bids of $14.2 million.
Bids were due Monday and Division of Oil and Gas Director Bill Barron opened them Wednesday morning at Anchorage’s Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center.
The lease sale was for tracts on the North Slope, in nearshore waters of the Beaufort Sea, and in the North Slope Foothills.
The foothills attracted bids for the first time in four years. Anadarko Petroleum bid on eight tracts.
The federal Bureau of Land Management will open bids Wednesday afternoon on 400 tracts covering 4.5 million acres within the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska.
The agency took public recommendations in May and June to determine which tracts to lease.
Last year three companies bid $3 million for 141,739 acres.
