Kodiak salmon catch has high value
Figures from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game show that Kodiak’s salmon catch this year was the most valuable in almost two decades.
According to the Kodiak Daily Mirror, preliminary figures show that Kodiak fishermen hauled in 19 million fish worth $44,975,796. That is the highest value since 1995.
Fish and Game says the average seiner earned $219,000; the average setnetter earned $52,000, and the average beach seiner earned $16,000. Prices were about on par with last year.
