U.S. Sen. Mark Begich is in Israel on a fact-finding trip.
Begich’s office says the focus is on the status of the U.S.-Israel relationship, how American foreign aid is being used and the threat posed by Iran.
Begich, who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee, is traveling with two other Democratic senators, Jeff Merkley of Oregon and Kay Hagan of North Carolina.
The trip’s itinerary includes meetings with political leaders, including the prime ministers of Israel and the Palestinian Authority. It also includes visits to a Holocaust memorial and electric car facility.
Begich’s office says he is traveling as a guest of the American Israel Education Foundation, and that no federal funds will be used for his trip.
Begich left Saturday and is due back in Alaska on Friday.
