House District 34 forum tonight

Candidates for House District 34 square off Thursday in Sitka in a forum to be broadcast by our sister station, KCAW.

The newly redrawn district includes Sitka, Haines, Metlakatla, Angoon, Hoonah, Craig, Klawock, Kake, Hydaburg and some other small Southeast communities. Republican Bill Thomas of Haines currently represents some communities in the district in the state House. He is being challenged by Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, a young Democrat from Sitka.

The forum is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., right after the Vice Presidential debate. Immediately following the HD 34 forum, Sen. Albert Kookesh will speak. The Angoon Democrat is challenging Sitka Republican Sen. Bert Stedman, but Stedman declined to be on the program.

Both the House and Senate form can be heard on a live stream from KCAW.

If you have questions for the candidates, submit them in advance to news@kcaw.org.

Stedman and Kookesh were  live at a KRBD forum on Wednesday in Ketchikan.  Click here for the stream.
